DECIDING THAT HE COULD NO LONGER TRUST THE CITY ATTORNEY TO GIVE HIM LEGAL ADVICE THAT HE COULD RELY ON, MAYOR FRANCIS SUAREZ HAS HIRED HIS OWN COUNSEL TO THE MAYOR

Even though the voters rejected his effort to become a Strong Mayor, Francis Suarez, the part-time, Executive Mayor of Miami continues to behave like a big boy mayor, including last week hiring Eddy Leal, as his own legal counsel after it became evident to many that in his persistent struggles with Commissioner Joe "Comemierda" Carollo, he was coming out on the short end of the stick every time that Miami City Attorney Victoria Mendez offered an opinion that favored Carollo.

Had Suarez been successful in becoming Strong Mayor it was predicted that Mendez would have been the first person that Suarez fired, which perhaps has also played a part in both her behavior, and his decision to hire his own attorney.

As with everything else, the introduction of a new attorney lurking around behind the mayor, or whispering in his ear during commission meetings should prompt some comments from Carollo, because he's not one to let an opportunity to ridicule, embarrass or make fun of the mayor is among the things that make commission meeting so much fun to watch.

An eagle-eyed Crespogram reader directed me to Section 2-63 of the City Charter that states that while the mayor can hire legal counsel, it is "subject to the advice, consent, and approval of the city commisison."

To my knowledge none of thsat has happendd.

Here is the section of the Charter, followed by the proffer letter to Leal.
