In the wake of this morning's news about the threats of a possible civil war if the impeachment of Donald Trump goes forward, I thought I'd go back in my archives to post a story and a video about what happens when a real civil war breaks out.

Below is one of several stories I wrote about my travels around Kosovo as a free-lance photo journalist in the days after the American troops entered that country, as well a a short video I put together about the treatment of the gypsies.

The veneer of civilization is often only wafer thin, and beneath that veneer lurk dark forces that beat in the hearts of people looking for any excuse to wreak havoc on all the things that offend them.

We are now living in very strange times, and things could get a lot worse, before they gets better, and the lasting impact could affect your children and grandchildren.

Men of the cloth who would invoke their faith, or use their God to incite the death and destruction of their countrymen over political disagreements have always been willing and eager to incite violence.

Sadly, they are often the first to crawl in a hole or run away when the violence they unleash comes knocking on their door.

Americans for the most part have no knowledge of the personal damage and destruction that war can bring. Yes, we've seen the video clips on the news, but that has absolutely no relationship to what the sights, sounds and smell of death and destruction are really like.

So before anyone starts mouthing off about a new civil war if this president gets impeached, turn off your TV, walk around your neighborhood, look at your neighbors, and figure out if you really would want to kill them or burn their house down, or if they would do it to you and your family.
